A few among us want to discuss the history of Christmas with our friends or family while celebrating it. This is because we already know it and there is no use repeating it over and over. But do your children also know it? They might have heard something from their teacher or friends, but how would you know that they have enough knowledge, or what they have heard is correct? After all, they are going to have a family of their own in a few years to come, and time flies by. There might not be enough time next year. Why not celebrate this Christmas a little different than last year and plan a Christmas history trivia to help your children understand why it's being celebrated?
This is one of the ideas to start educating your children about the history of Christmas. There can be other fun ways as well. Make sure you don't bore them with so many religious stories. Just give some main points and then test their knowledge. Watch some history movies together and ask them what they learned. Your children must know that Christmas is not just a time to give and receive gifts and make snowmen and enjoy with Santa Claus. You must tell them how this tradition of gifts started and how important it is in making relationships last forever. Make fun quizzes and ask questions about the history and then give out presents to the winners. Also announce in advance so that they come prepared and try to win. This is a very effective way of learning. Tell them where they are wrong, so that they will never forget their mistakes and won't repeat them in front of others.
