Christmas parties are the highlight of many people’s social calendars, and as so many people throw them, you want yours to stand out. Whether you’re throwing a Christmas Party for work or just for fun, the same basic points apply.

Number of guests

This is the first thing you need to establish, as it frames the rest of your decisions. If you’re booking somewhere to go, it will affect your choice of venue in terms of the size and seating that you need, as well as how much it will cost to hire it. It will determine the sort of atmosphere you’re looking for and therefore what kind of party you’ll be throwing! Exact numbers are hard to come by, but try and establish a rough turnout at the start of your planning.

How much do I need to spend?

This obviously depends on two chief factors: how much you have to spend and how many people you’re spending on. It goes without saying that the more money per head you can afford, the more special your party can be – it might even be worth hiring some professional party organisers. However, if you don’t have much of a budget, there’s no reason your party can’t be special, you’ll just have to invest more time and imagination!

The party atmosphere

Again, this depends a lot on the number of guests and how much money you have to spend. If you’re throwing a do for a lot of people, you’re likely to be treading on the more wild side of things. However, if there’s only a few of you, perhaps you should aim for a more low-key, sophisticated dinner and crackers affair.

Dress code

It’s a celebration and you want it to feel special. Most Christmas parties are smart dress, if not formal. Although, this obviously depends on your guests and how comfortable they are with that. Don’t forget that dress code can involve fancy dress: a sure-fire way to creating a memorable party.

Location

There are many considerations here. Obviously there is the size of the venue and what they can offer you, but you also need to consider how far all your guests will need to travel and whether or not they will need overnight accommodation.
